JUNE 18TH
JUNE 18TH
Midnight approaches,
Becoming June 18th,
I vision through your eyes,
Summarizes the years that went.
It all happened in 1980,
In which you were born,
Just a new baby in the world,
Just a bundle of happiness.
In 1981, a one year child,
As your mother held you tight,
Shining like a flawless diamond,
With a single candle to blow out.
In 1982, never being a terrible two,
But just content and smiling,
Sitting in the high chair,
With a nice red bow in your hair.
In 1983, colouring with a crayon,
Always inside the picture lines,
Neat and tidy with glamour,
Printing your name Denise.
In 1984, playing outside,
With your new running shoes,
Just an angel, with brown eyes,
With a bandage on your toe.
In 1985, getting taller,
With a nice dress,
Doing somersaults,
With smell of fresh flowers.
In 1986, walking to school,
Meeting classmates,
At recess, playing tag,
With lovely ambition and heart.
In 1987, driving in the car,
Looking at the narrow roads,
Too much of a distance,
Then falling asleep in the backseat.
In 1988, I think we cross paths,
Maybe at a playground,
Or in the shopping mall,
We will never know.
In 1989, dreaming being a bride,
In a nice white wedding gown,
Having a sleep over with friends,
A nine-year old eating popcorn.
In 1990, with determination,
Getting good grades,
Choosing friends wisely,
Applying colourful nail polish.
In 1991, hitting a softball,
Then listening to the radio,
Getting a TV in the bedroom,
Chattering on the telephone.
In 1992, buying magazines,
Putting posters on the wall,
Tidying up your room,
On a hot day, drinking slushies.
In 1993, getting braces,
Finally, cutting your hair,
Applying lipstick and eyeshadow,
Shopping for a new pair of jeans.
In 1994, just a block away,
Attending highschool,
While I moved in the area,
Only a few kilometres apart.
In 1995, fancy jewellery to wear,
Closets filled with clothes,
That was 23 years ago,
But the same brown eyes.
In 1996, sweet sixteen,
A party with boys and girls,
While trying to find a first job,
Getting your driver’s license.
In 1997, your first car and meeting me,
Giving me a ride home,
With full of flame and beauty,
Knowing you were the one.
In 1998, the braces came off,
As we were officially a couple,
Now it’s 2018, 20 years have past,
Where I have always been a part of.
